Week Three

Ok, that was a movie heavy week.  Onto Star Trek: The Next Generation…  there are 6 Star Trek shows, with the 7th, Star Trek: Picard, coming out in 2020.  TNG is the best out of all of them. Most of your viewing will be this series. I’ve condensed 176 episodes down to about 100. A lot of the ones that are skipped are worthwhile, but for the purpose of this project, I had to add the best most essential episodes. These episodes will take you through the first season and partly through the second.

Week One

My goal is to get anyone who has never seen Star Trek to go from novice to die-hard fan in 100 days. All you will need is 3 months of Netflix and 1 month of CBS All Access.

Total Cost: $53

Total Daily Hours: 2

Week 1:

This is to introduce you to the Best of Star Trek (The Original Series)  It is not complete. But these episodes are the foundation of the universe of Star Trek and you’ll be well served watching them. I picked the best, most entertaining episodes first.  This shouldn’t feel like homework but back in 1966 TV episodes were 52 minutes long. These are slow paced. Some of it will feel cheesy, some of it will feel sexist. Still, if you go in with an open mind, and understand the era these classic episodes belong in, you’ll enjoy them.  There are even better episodes that were left out, but you can come back to them once you know if you’re gonna be a fan or not.

Day 1:

The Doomsday Machine

Arena

Day 2:

Balance of Terror

Errand of Mercy

Day 3:

The Corbomite Maneuver

Journey to Babel

Day 4:

Minor site fixes

It is going to take more effort to get this simple blog off the ground than I expected.  I’m not looking to do anything to fancy, I just need an organized space to gather content that’s sitting scattered across the cosmos. My initial goals are to:

  • Create a site to publish chapters of three writing projects that have been languishing for years. I want to do this in order to force myself to continue with them, and maybe a little feedback will help motivate me
  • Comment on news that I find interesting and maybe share a few memes
  • Have place to publish reviews for movies, restaurants and products.

I’d like to have each project have a separate page within the site, while the main page just serves as a scrolling train of thought to all the random-ass stuff I come across. Better to clutter a website than my own head.

Goals for the site for this week:  Change this template and add some functionality. Add some photos and give it a more welcoming look.

Actual content to follow someday.

Honey, how do I make a website?

@Mary Khandaker   <——So this mention doesn’t actually link to anything.  I’d like that to link maybe to Facebook or Twitter.  Can you do that on WordPress?  Also, I registered the domain name “taibeen.com” with the assumption that the www. that proceeds everything would be there. However as I’m testing out http://www.taibeen.com it’s defaulting to http://taibeen.com and that is really weirding me out.  Who do I talk to about that?  Thanks honey, love you!

Happy Earth Day

Really, isn’t every day supposed to be Earth Day? Many years ago I interned at a campaign finance reform non-profit called Public Campaign and wrote a pamphlet describing the myriad ways special interest groups caused mayhem with our environmental policies. I recall in that research how useless the at-the-time landmark Kyoto Protocols had become in three short years.  18 years later we have what appears to be a more promising Paris Summit agreement, which both the US and China appear to be taking seriously.  I suppose that’ll happen when residents of Beijing are choking on smog on a daily basis. As to whether the United States honors this new agreement depends on who exactly will be in the White House on January 20, 2017.
